The Uncanny Side of Titanic, With Unique Connections to New York City

Join us as we seek out the lost spirits of the RMS Titanic. Inspired by the strange and ghostly tales of the ship that would change seafaring history forever, our “Ghosts of the Titanic” walking tour uncovers the uncanny side of the Ship of Dreams… and its unique connections to New York City.

The story of Titanic is filled with accounts of odd and inexplicable coincidences: after the disaster, dozens of survivors came forward with tales of foreboding feelings, precognitive dreams, and strange occurrences. They told of unsettling messages, and described a night of unprecedented atmospheric eeriness in the moments immediately before the sinking. And in its afterlife, Titanic has everything from haunted artifacts to mysterious signals and apparitions experienced 400 miles out to sea. Even for skeptics of all things supernatural, Titanic still exerts a powerful hold over the imagination, leading to more fascination and downright obsession (sometimes with tragic results) than any other ocean-going vessel in history. What is it about Titanic that is so… haunting

Let us lead you from Astor Place, named after the family whose scion perished aboard Titanic, to Pier 54 in Chelsea, where the ship was supposed to have docked had it arrived in New York. Discover a bizarre premonition that caused a New York City writer to predict the Titanic disaster…14 years before the ship set sail. Hear stories of curses, seances, and a fortune teller’s prediction, tragically unheeded. Learn which West Village hotel may still be haunted by the spirits of Titanic. See where some of the disaster’s victims are memorialized and honored in New York City, from Grace Church to the former St. Vincent’s Hospital.

We’ll show you where survivors on the rescue ship Carpathia were brought ashore in that cold April of 1912, and share macabre, sorrowful tales of the watery deep as we remember Titanic’s tragic story, and how it is inextricably and indelibly linked to New York City. By the end of this tour, you’ll know why there is no ship more haunting than Titanic.

Available only once a year in April, the anniversary month of the disaster.
