They told of unsettling messages, and described a night of unprecedented atmospheric eeriness in the moments immediately before the sinking. And in its afterlife, Titanic has everything from haunted artifacts to mysterious signals and apparitions experienced 400 miles out to sea. Even for skeptics of all things supernatural, Titanic still exerts a powerful hold over the imagination, leading to more fascination and downright obsession (sometimes with tragic results) than any other ocean-going vessel in history. Let us lead you from Astor Place, named after the family whose scion perished aboard Titanic, to Pier 54 in Chelsea, where the ship was supposed to have docked had it arrived in New York.
